The Legend of the Tower of Hanoi

The Tower of Hanoi is one of the most famous puzzles in mathematics and computer science. It was introduced in 1883 by French mathematician Édouard Lucas, who created the famous legend of monks moving a sacred tower made of 64 golden discs.

According to the legend, the monks must move the entire tower from one pillar to another, following just three simple rules:

* Only one piece may be moved at a time.
* A larger piece may never be placed on top of a smaller piece.
* Only the top piece of a tower may be moved.

Legend says that when the monks finish moving all 64 discs, the world will come to an end.

Although the story is fictional, the puzzle became one of the most celebrated examples of recursion and algorithmic thinking. Today, it is used worldwide to teach mathematics, logical reasoning, and computer science concepts.
